Unit 2: Learning Aim A,B,C

Week 1:
We were put into two teams and introduced to unit 2 with a brief and booklet with information on the task. We were told to decide the information ourselves. This information included the genre of the album we have to create and the target audience. I have been given the role as the recorder of the minutes. This means I have to record all ideas on the booklet and record who contributed them.

Week 2:
We further discussed what was going to happen and how we were going to record and make our project. I was assigned the job of checking songs for copyright and who the song belongs to.

Week 3
In terms of copyright, the three songs we have chosen are all public domain songs. Meaning they are royalty free. This is a good thing as we can use all the songs we have chosen without any copyright issues.

Week 4
We recorded the first scene of The Gruffalo, the audiobook we have chosen to include. We chose this as the story is simple. Therefore, younger children would like this as they can easily understand and remember the story. We are planning to record the next scenes later on.

Week 5
I have now planned and decided on my promotional material. I am going to make a promotional poster for my product, showing the logo and displaying what the CD is and pictures relevant to the product. Such as stars and the gruffalo.
Week 6
My job is to research promotional posters and take ideas from these to make my own version for our product. Here is the research I have gathered:

Meeting Minutes

Nature of CD:
  • Inlay
  • Mini Books
  • Audiobooks, people like to listen to audio books as it provides a book for when people may not have the time to read or while they are going to sleep.
  • Mr Haynes Market Research- Says fairy tales can outgrow children fairly quickly. E.g 6 year olds may not want to listen.

Target Audience:
  • Babies or small children - James' idea, this could be a good idea as it is a simple yet effective. Easy to produce content for little children.
  • Remixes - Rebecca's Idea, more complex but could potentially sound good. Would require the studio and computer software.
Content of CD - Recorded music, Composition, Extra curricular clubs etc:
  • Short covers of popular songs - Sophie's Suggestion, difficult idea but would be worth it.
  • Mixture of different genres
Selection of material- actual choices:
  • Twinkle twinkle little star
  • The Wheels on the bus
  • Incy Wincy Spider
  • The Gruffalo

Evaluation

The planning contributed to my final product as we have used James' idea to do with babies and small children. We chose a selection of nursery rhymes and The Gruffalo audiobook. I have produced the promotional poster for this and was the voice of the fox in the audiobook. Also, it was my job to check any songs for copyright. The nursery rhymes were not copyrighted as the were public domains. The Gruffalo however, copyright is owned by Julia Donaldson, the original author. The audiobook and nursery rhymes were successful.

Sophie took a lead role for the project, she made sure we all knew what we were doing and put forward ideas with others including myself at the initial meeting. It was also her idea to use garageband on the iPads. We had deadlines in place to make sure the tasks were completed. However, our work was lost from the iPad we recorded on. We recorded again using Sophie's Phone. This was done slowly however as not everyone could make it to the lessons.

Finally, I think the product went well and successfully met the brief as we have made a CD with an audiobook and nursery rhymes, aimed at young children. Rebecca incorrectly placed the markers for the soundcloud export, so the tracks are longer than they need to be.
