Unit 7: Sequencing Learning Aim A

What is reverb?

'A reverb is an abbreviation of 'reverberation', reverb  is the extension and blending pitches beyond the rhythmic value.E.g, a piano played with it's sustain pedal depressed displays reverberation, as the activated pedal prevents the instrument's
interior felt dampers from silencing their corresponding strings. This causes the sound to continue until the strings stop vibrating on their own. Reverb is basically echo. This slowly decays (Slightly different to echo).'

What is Automation?

'Automation is a technique used to minimize human intervention as much as possible, if something is fully automatic, it requires little to no human intervention. This is used in many things including music in reason when you tell something to loop for example, when you press play it will loop for you, without having to do it manually.'

What is Delay?

'Delay is an audio effect which records an input signal to an audio storage medium, and then plays it back after a period of time. The delayed signal may either be played back multiple times, or played back into the recording again, to create the sound of a repeating, decaying echo.'

What is Gating?

'A noise gate or gate is an electronic device or software that is used to control the volume of an audio signal. Gating is the use of a gate. Comparable to a compressor, which attenuate signals above a threshold, noise gates attenuate signals that register below the threshold.'

What is EQ?

EQ is a vital tool in modern music production, It is a controller for bass, treble and master volume.

What is compression?

'Compression is the process of lessening the dynamic range between the loudest and quietest parts of an audio signal. This is done by boosting the quieter signals and attenuating the louder signals.'

Evaluation of Sequencing Learning Aim A.

I have learned a lot during sequencing. I have learned how to use reason properly and I have done a presentation on how to use reason to the class. I have learnt how to use the instruments inside of reason, mainly the drum track as I managed to successfully create a drum track which sounds good and goes with the rest of the song.  Although, I can still confidently use reason to create a piece of music without difficulty due to the skills I have picked up during the course. I need to improve on the creating of the sounds because I have not made the best piece of music I am capable of and I need to ensure all tracks are connected to the correct part of the mixer and set the volume correctly.

Week 1
I have learned how to locate reason and how to open reason.

Week 2

I learnt how to create a mixer and how to use the options inside of it.

Week 3

I learnt how to create a drum track and use it accordingly to create a drum sample that sounds good.

Week 4

I learnt how to use and how to create a sampler.

Week 5

I learnt how to create and use a synth track and went on to create my own sample.

Week 6

I learnt how to balance pan and EQ.

Week 7

I learnt how to create a midi keyboard.

Week 8

I learnt how to change the length of notes and then changed the length of a few notes in my track.

Week 9

I learnt how to use step time input.

Week 10

I learnt how to add notes in with a mouse and then used this to add in missing notes.

Week 11

I learnt how to edit note position and used this to move a note that had came out of place.

Week 12

I researched how to change pitch and used this to change the pitch of my track.

Below are the sounds inside my powerpoint. The NN-XT is l
ocated on slide 7, the drum track is on slide 6 and the synth track is located on slide 9.

Handout; This is my handout for the reason presentation. A labelled diagram of the mixer which provides detailed labels to ensure the audience are fully aware of what is being shown to them.
